French terms explained
1. Arriere, en: (In French, backwards) Indicates any movement traveling backwards
2. Arabesque: (From Italian "arabesco" meaning 'in Arabian fashoin') A movement in which the dancer stands on one foot with the other foot high in the air
3. Assemblé: (In French, assembled or gathered.) The dancer brings her feet back together
4. Avant, en (French, forwards) Indicates any movement traveling forward
5. Battement: (French, beating) An action in which the dancer "hits" the floor with a working leg
6. Cambré (French, curved or arched) A backward, forward or sideways arch of the upper body
7. Fouetté (French, whipped) An action in which a dancer executes repeated spins on one leg, working their other leg
8. L'air, en: (In French, in the air) Indicates a movement's location off the ground, such as "rond de jambe en l'air"
9. Plié: (In French, to bend or fold) a movement in which the knees bend
10. Ronde de jambe: (French, rounding of the leg) The leg is moved in a circular motion
